Bluehost Review (2020): Best WordPress Webhosting?

By Tom

January 29, 2020

You are probably expecting a review of 5 stars again.

A review where everything is perfect to ensure that you sign up through my affiliate link.

That is not the case now.

I always write honestly and critically based on my own experience and the experience of others.

So also in this Bluehost review.

It should be good web hosting for WordPress websites, but is this really the case?

Let’s look at it!

Bluehost Review (VIDEO)

Sorry for my bad pronunciation in the video. I remain a Dutch guy who does his best, haha!

If you want to know more and want to have an extensive Bluehost review, I advise you to read the article.

What Is Bluehost?

Bluehost is a web hosting provider.

This provider is the number 1 web host for the use of WordPress websites.

In addition, they have 24/7 live chat support.

A money back guarantee.

And according to Bluehost, the program is built for success.

Bluehost was founded in 2003.

They have been active in the world of web hosting for a long time and continue to introduce updates every year.

One better than the other.

Today they host more than 2 million websites.

With a team of more than 750 people, they are available 24 hours a day to keep these websites up and running.

The company has also been a loyal partner of WordPress for more than 10 years, but more about that later.

Who Can Use Bluehost?

Bluehost is primarily established for the starting entrepreneurs and companies.

Due to the extremely low entry price, this has also become the target group.

People who have just started and therefore have little money available.

You can also get another 65% discount via this special link.

In addition, Bluehost can of course be used by everyone.

It is not much different than other web hosting providers.

Bluehost is one of the best when it comes to ‘up-time’.

But more about that later too.

Bluehost is very accessible and easy to use.

Bluehost Pros And Cons

Since there are not many features on a web hosting, I think it would be useful to look at the advantages and disadvantages of Bluehost.

These are many points that can be important in your choice.

#1: Really Cheap Web Hosting

Normally you can already purchase a web hosting for $ 7.99 a month.

You will also receive a free domain and a free SSL certificate.

In addition, you can download WordPress with one click and you have customer service available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

So you all get this with the cheapest plan.

Instead of $ 7.99 you can use a discount.

Then you pay a small $ 3.95!

Moreover, you also have a 30-day money-back guarantee.

So you do not run any risk.

We don’t see this with many web hosting sites.

#2: Best Uptime

In my view, this is one of the most important points of web hosting.

Your uptime is the time that your website is online.

Of course you don’t want your website to go offline just like that.

The visitors cannot come to your website and the fact is that you do not earn anything.

Fortunately, Bluehost is at the top when it comes to uptime.

I have kept it on one of my websites for the last 12 months.

Below you will find the overview.

This shows that Bluehost is a very reliable web hosting.

#3: Best Web Hosting For WordPress

The great thing about Bluehost is that it is fully optimized for using WordPress.

This is the best and most used content management system on the market.

In addition, it is also free.

Downloading WordPress by hand is normally a tough job.

However, Bluehost has arranged it so that you can do this with 1 click or that you already download it when you create your account.

It all speaks for itself.

Every digibet can handle this.

This is mainly due to the newest system from Bluehost: Bluerock.

This is all integrated in the hosting.

This software ensures that your WordPress websites are automatically provided with the latest security techniques.

And therefore also free SSL certificates.

#4: Website Load Speed

You probably know it, but the speed of your website is becoming increasingly important to rank high in Google.

If your website is too slow you can literally be put back one page.

This always results in fewer visitors and therefore fewer sales.

This can really destroy your business.

Part of the speed is determined by the servers of your web hosting.

So I went to find out what the average speed of Bluehost was.

This made me very happy!

Below you can see the result of a bluehost test website.

You also see a very high uptime again!

#5: Money Back Guarantee

No company is waiting for negative reviews.

To prevent this, they give you a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Furthermore, they have no small print that you can overlook.

So they are completely transparent and I like that.

#6: Website Security

With most web hosting sites with a low price, we see that things are missing on all sides.

However, this does not seem to be the case with Bluehost.

The security of your website, your data and that of the visitor are of paramount importance.

You will get the following in the package to secure your website:

  • HTTP/2
  • FREE SSL Certificate
  • SSD Drives
  • PHP7
  • Free Cloudflare CDN
  • WordPress Staging
  • NGINX+ Caching

This is enough to keep your website safe.

So you no longer have to take extra measures and therefore no longer have to spend extra money.

#7: Bluehost Customer Support

The customer service from Bluehost is one of the best I have experienced with web hosting providers.

They have a 24-hour live chat.

I was a bit skeptical about this, but this was totally wrong.

I live in the Netherlands and yet I had an answer to my question within a few minutes.

Sometimes they unfortunately don’t understand me very well, but that can of course also be due to my poor English;)

In addition to the 24/7 live chat, they also have a knowledge base.

I advise you to take a look here first if you have any questions.

You can find everything here, such as:

  • Video's
  • Articles
  • Reviews
  • Tutorials
  • And much more.

If both functions do not help you, you can always call.

This service is also available 24/7.

#8: Integrations

There are many integration options at Bluehost.

For example, I told you earlier that you can download WordPress with 1 click.

You can also integrate other systems.

Consider, for example, Joomla and various e-commerce options.

Bluehost also gives you access to a CDN (Content Delivery Network).

This network hosts all your large files which ensures that you get more space on your own servers.

This way you keep your website fast.

#9: User Friendliness

Bluehost is a very good host, that should be clear.

Unfortunately, you usually see that very good hosts are more focused on the experienced people.

This is not the case with Bluehost.

The Bluehost interface works very well and you have very good support.

I often like to look at products that are more suitable for beginners.

You can also see this in my GetResponse review and my LeadPages review.

Both are good software programs for beginners.

Because I know what it’s like to come into this world as a newbie.

It can be a bit complicated!

#10: Extra Features

In addition to the ‘normal’ features, you also get access to extras.

For example, you have access to marketing services, various tools and advertising channels.

Of course also the 24/7 support with every plan and the money back guarantee.

Plus the easy 1 click system to download WordPress.

Enough pros.

Now let’s take a critical look and name the cons of Bluehost.

As promised earlier, this is not just going to be a 5 star review if you see it everywhere.

I want you to be able to make a good decision based on a REAL review.

Even though I am from the Netherlands, I think you can follow me just fine.

#1: No Free Backups

You can have free backups made of your website.

However, these do not happen regularly and the question is when they will do this.

So it may just be that your website is lost and you don’t have a good backup available.

Another thing is that they only keep the backup they have for 30 days.

So if you want an older version of your website back then this is not possible.

There is a solution for this and that is the paid ‘Site Backup Pro’.

This ensures that a daily backup is made of your website.

I myself have not had any problems with this, but I can imagine that this can happen.

So that had to be said in this Bluehost review.

#2: High Renewal Rates

What we often see in the world of web hosting is that they charge a very cheap price.

However, this is only for the first year.

The following year prices rise.

This is otherwise very normal and we see it everywhere.

It would have been nice if Bluehost had not taken part in this.

Fortunately, you can get a discount over your entire subscription via this link.

You see that for the longer you pay, the cheaper the plan becomes.

#3: No Free Migrations

A very big disadvantage to Bluehost is that they don’t do free migrations.

So if you are currently at a different web hosting and you want to switch to Bluehost with your current websites then you will have to pay.

You pay a one-time $ 149.99.

You get in return:

  • 20 email accounts
  • 5 websites
  • Other database files

Bluehost Pricing & Packages

At Bluehost you can choose from 3 different plans.

In most cases you will never be able to handle the cheapest option.

That seems to be the case again.

You can only host 1 website with the basic plan.

That is why the ‘plus’ plan or the ‘choice plus’ plan seems a better option here.

With both you can create unlimited websites.

Both of these cost you $ 5.95.

After the first year, the ‘choice plus’ plan is slightly more expensive.

As you can see you can only create 1 domain with the basic plan.

In addition, you only have 50 GB of storage.

You do get a free SLL certificate, just like with the rest of the plans.

Plus & Choice Plus

The ‘plus’ and ‘choice plus’ plans are almost the same.

Choice plus only provides more extras, 1 domain privacy + protection and CodeGuard basic.

This is therefore the most chosen plan and is recommended by Bluehost itself.

Go Pro

Or go pro.

You get everything that you also get in the choice plus package plus a high performance server and much more.

Wich Plan Fits Best?

There is not necessarily a plan that fits better.

I can advise you not to buy the smallest package.

1 domain name is simply useless if you really want to build a business.

If you want to create a website once, you can of course do this.

Ultimately, the choice is yours and you must determine what suits you and your business.

The price overview below may help with the selection.

I show every plan here: 12, 24 and 36 months.

Bluehost Pricing Overview

Do I Recommend Bluehost?

Yes, I recommend Bluehost for anyone looking for a reliable web hosting.

However, you must take into account a number of points.

And first of all decide for yourself what you want to do with web hosting.

I can recommend the following:

  • Basic plan: if you intend to make one single website.
  • Plus plan: if you want to make more websites and not just one.
  • Choice plus: if you intend to run more than 1 website and need security and spam prevention.
  • Pro plan: when you want to run an e-commerce website and get everything from choice plus.

This is reflected in every plan:

  • FREE domain for the first year
  • Credit Card Or PayPal Payment
  • Easy Sign-up Page
  • Instant Activation
  • User Friendly And Easy Dashboard
  • FREE SSL Certificate

Bluehost Review: Verdict

Bluehost is a strong and reliable web hosting.

That is also the reason that I recommend this hosting for 100% to both beginners and professionals.

Searching further does not make much sense in this case, because you simply will not encounter anything better.

Bluehost is one of the cheapest and you also get the most for your money.

The super fast customer service is also very nice.

Of course it is not perfect, because that is not possible.

You have read all these points under ‘cons’.

But generally speaking and if you compare it with other hostings, Bluehost is definitely worth your money.
